PADI Tec Diver

Our PADI Tec Courses start with the PADI Tec 40 course, which teaches the basics of decompression diving, allowing you to dive to 40m and extending dive time past recreational limits, using 2 bottom gas tanks and a deco tank with up to 50% Nitrox.

With prior self-study, you can complete Tec 40 in just 2 to 3 days and then continue on to greater depths with the PADI Tec 45 & Tec 50 courses.

Our 2 day PADI Tec 40 Course is only 16,900b!

2 Day PADI Tec 40 Course

If you are already a capable certified sidemount diver, then this course is for you!

Day 1: Some theory & practical sessions, followed by a pool dive, broken into 2 training segments.
Day 2: 3 boat dives. Dives 1 & 2 being practice dives, with dive 3 being a decompression dive.

Goals / Limits: Max depth is 40m. Max deco time is 10 minutes using 1 deco tank of Nitrox up to 50% for accelerated decompression, or 15 minutes if only using bottom gas.

Prerequisites: PADI Advanced Open Water, PADI Deep & Nitrox Specialties, 30 logged dives, and 18 years of age. If you don’t have the Deep Specialty, then proof of 10 dives to 30m or more is needed. You’ll also need a doctors medical certificate signed that you’re fit for diving. For non-PADI divers, equivalent course ratings and experience are required.

3 Day PADI Tec 40 Course

Day 1: Some theory & practical sessions, followed by dive 1 in the pool, broken into 2 parts.
Day 2: 3 dives available to complete training dives 2 & 3 – nice to have a spare dive for fun / practice!
Day 3: 3 dives available to complete at least 1 decompression dive to finish the course. The extra dives can be for deco / fun dives.

Goals / Limits: Same as for the 2 day course.

Prerequisites: Same as for the 2 day course, except you can complete the Sidemount Diver during the same 3 days (recommended), or choose to do the backmount version of the Tec 40 course. If you’d like the PADI Tec Sidemount certification, then 1 more day is needed.

Note: We highly recommend the 3 day Tec 40 course to more comfortably complete requirements and / or use the extra dives towards combined certifications, such as Sidemount Diver.

3 Day PADI Tec 45 Course

Day 1: Theory & practical sessions, followed by 1 pool or beach dive.
Day 2: 3 dives available to complete training dives 2 & 3 – nice to have a spare dive for fun / practice!
Day 3: 3 dives available to complete at least 1 decompression dive to finish the course. The extra dives can be for deco / fun dives.

Goals / Limits: Max depth is 45m. No max deco time, though boats run to a 50 minute dive time. Up to 100% oxygen, in a single deco tank, can be used for conservatism or accelerated decompression – we provide 100% O2.

Prerequisites: PADI Rescue Diver, 50 logged dives (10 of those must be deeper than 30m) , PADI Tec 40, and 18 years of age. You’ll also need a ‘fit for diving’ doctors medical certificate. For non-PADI divers, equivalent course ratings and experience are required.

Day 1: Theory & practical sessions, followed by 1 pool or beach dive.
Day 2: 3 dives available to complete training dive 2 and possibly dive 3. Run times for simulated deco are 30+ minutes, so it’s nice to have spare dives to complete skills more comfortably and for practice.
Day 3: 3 dives available for the 1 or 2 decompression dives required to finish the course. The extra dive(s) may be for deco / fun dives

Goals / Limits: Max depth is 50m. No max deco time, though boats run to a 50 minute dive time. 2 deco tanks are used, with Nitrox and 100% oxygen, for conservatism / accelerated decompression.

Prerequisites: PADI Rescue Diver, 100 logged dives, PADI Tec 45, and 18 years of age. You’ll also need a signed doctors medical certificate that states you are fit for diving. For non-PADI divers, equivalent course ratings and experience are required.

Why Be A Tec Diver?

Although being a tec diver is more demanding both mentally and physically, and inherently comes with more risk, there are many great reasons to be certified beyond recreational limits:

  • Much longer bottom times
  • Dive deeper than 40 meters
  • Explore new / deeper dive sites
  • Develop excellent diver skills
  • Trains you to be self-sufficient
  • Improves dive / mission planning
  • Better problem prevention & handling
  • Deeper understanding of dive theory

PADI’s new ‘state of the art’ technical diver courses do require a solid commitment from anyone wanting to learn tec diving, but the rewards of being a PADI tec diver are well worth it!

PADI Tec Courses In Phuket

Phuket has such great facilities for diving, with many excellent dive sites that are perfect for both tec diver training and fun deco dives, particularly at Racha Noi where some beautiful soft-coral covered bolder reefs extend down to 50m and beyond!

The boats we use are big and comfortable, to better cater for the extra effort involved in courses requiring multiple tanks, and with quality equipment available from from top manufacturers, Phuket is the certainly the right place to do your PADI Tec Courses.

Of course, with decompression diving being more demanding, it’s important to know that Phuket has some excellent re-compression chambers, in the event that one is required. And it’s also nice to know that we include diving insurance – although as a tec diver, you really should have your own diving insurance.

Deep Diver Specialty for PADI Tec 40

PADI Deep Diver

This 1 day specialty course (after your PADI Advanced certification) is the best way to meet deep dive requirements for the PADI Tec 40 course. And you can save money & time by doing Nitrox on the same day!

The PADI Nitrox certification can be done as classroom only, but it’s a much better experience and great preparation for your Tec 40 course if you do it as a diving specialty – perhaps on your deep or sidemount dives!

Sidemount Specialty for PADI Tec 40
Sidemount

PADI Sidemount Diver

You can tec dive on back-mounted twin tanks (doubles) but there are many benefits to sidemount diving. Perhaps the ‘deciding factor’ is the availability of back-mounted doubles vs using 2 ordinary DIN tanks for sidemount!

Courses & Dives Required For Tec

If you don’t yet have enough logged dives to start your desired Tec Course, or you need another certification such as the PADI Deep & Nitrox Specialties, then please get in touch and we’ll work out a specially priced package for you!

Love Diving’s Tec Courses

When you do PADI Tec Courses with Love Diving, we provide all the necessary equipment, however it is usually better to use your own ‘familiar’ equipment, so long as it’s appropriate for tec diving.

We assign one of our own very experienced instructors to take you through the course(s), but please understand that tec courses can be quite demanding and require an appropriate amount of work and commitment from you.

You can schedule in breaks in training, perhaps taking a day or two off between multiple courses. And be reminded that our 3 days courses include extra dives, that can help with extra practice, course pacing and meeting performance requirements – or having more fun!

PADI Tec Courses Guide

Here is a general guide to the training schedule on our 3 day PADI Tec 40, 45 & 50 Courses:

  • Self-study. The eLearning for each of the Tec 40, 45 & 50 courses (included in our course prices) must be successfully completed before starting the respective course – and in our experience each of these takes at least 1 whole working day.
  • 1 Day: Theory & Pool. Theory is usually done poolside, followed by some practical sessions and then an afternoon of dive training.
  • 2 Days: Boat diving. Although the Tec 40, 45 & 50 courses each have another 3 open water dives after the pool training, we allow for up to 6 dives for a much better experience!

If in doubt about your diving or buoyancy skills, you may want to book a day to refresh dive skills or get a little extra diver training in preparation for doing tec – some divers have found it invaluable to do their PADI Sidemount course before going on to TEC 40.

After Your Tec Courses

Do some tec fun dives!

During the first few days of doing tec courses there seems so much to do and learn, but each day gets easier and diving with multiple tanks, using technical procedures, soon becomes your new ‘norm’.

So take advantage of your new certification(s), while everything is still fresh, and do some decompression diving. It’s so much fun and really helps consolidate what you’ve achieved.

We also offer good discounts on dive gear for our divers – and you might want some new gear to go with your new certification!
